Aakash world’s cheapest tablet, got sold within seconds of its launch. Impressed by the success, the Indian government has

high hopes from the next-in-line, Aakash-2 tablet, which is expected to be unveiled by either Jan or Feb of 2012. India has

invited PC makers from Taiwan to take part in the bidding for Aakash-2 tablet. The international bidding for the tablet,

which was originally scheduled to take place in December, is pushed to this month.

Sandeep Yadav, the convener of the Aakash tablet project has let out that the second generation Aakash tablet PCs are due to

be launched soon and the Government of India is addressing the Taiwan-based PC makers to bear a hand in the bidding process

of the tablet. Aakash 2 tablets are higher versions of Aakash tablets and represents many advance features when comparing to

Aakash 1. Taiwanese companies are good in producing bulk tablets at a lower price.

With the Taiwan PC manufacturers at play, the Indian government will be able to keep the prices of Aakash 2 at around Rs 2500

mark, same as Akash 1. As far its features are concerned, the upgraded Aakash-2 will be available in the market with better

battery and processor.

The government is looking forward for some help from the Taiwan manufacturers of the Aakash tablet to get for an even lower

price of just $35 USD. The government plans to ship some 230 million units of the Aakash – 2 tablet in the years to come.
